We study cardiovascular regulation and hypoxia tolerance in animals that naturally possess extreme physiological traits. By investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate tissue perfusion and protection from low oxygen conditions, we hope to identify novel pathways with therapeutic potential in humans.

We are also interested in understanding how and when physiology is the limiting factor for wild populations to thrive. This will help resource managers and policy makers identify likely outcomes from ecosystem disturbance and change, and to enable more informed decisions for managing land use and ocean economy.
